Year 4 2025 - 2026

Mrs Rawstorne

Welcome to Class Four

Summer 2026!

Welcome back to Class 4!

I hope you all had a lovely Easter break and are feeling refreshed and ready for an exciting and busy summer term ahead. I am really looking forward to continuing our year and building on the fantastic progress the children have already made this year. It is set to be a term full of learning, growth and memorable experiences for everyone.

In Maths, we will be revisiting and strengthening key areas to build confidence and fluency. Our focus will include place value and decimals, multiplication and division, area and perimeter, as well as 2D and 3D shapes, and fractions and decimals. With the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) taking place in the first week of June, we will continue to practise regularly to support the children’s quick recall and ensure they feel confident and prepared.

As this year is the National Year of Reading, we are excited to promote a love of reading across the curriculum. We will begin the term with the beautiful text The Tin Forest, which will inspire both our reading and writing. There will also be fun activities throughout the term to encourage reading for pleasure, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming parents into school for a special Reading Café.

In English, we will continue to use high-quality texts to inspire our writing. This term we are reading 'Where the Forest Meets the Sea'. The children will be developing their skills by securing the basics of punctuation and grammar, while also enhancing their writing with adverbial phrases, speech, and a variety of writing styles. I am keen to see their confidence and creativity grow as writers.

In Religious Education, our focus will be on the Church as a community built on the mission of the apostles. The children will explore the life and role of St Peter and continue to develop their understanding of how the Church continues the work of Jesus today. Wewill make links between scripture, beliefs and practices, while also reflecting on our own ideas and the perspectives of others. There will be opportunities for thoughtful discussion, asking questions, and considering how faith can influence the way people live their lives.

A very special part of this term is that Class 4 will be making their First Holy Communion in May. We will spend time in school preparing for this important sacrament, supporting the children as they deepen their understanding and take this significant step in their faith journey. I am very much looking forward to being part of this journey with the children and supporting them in this step.

In Science, our topic is Living Things and Their Habitats. The children will learn about how environments can change and how these changes can sometimes pose dangers to living things. We will make links with our Geography topic, where we will explore why deserts are dry and jungles are wet, comparing different environments and understanding the reasons behind these contrasts.

In PE, lessons will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. This term, the children will be developing their skills in cricket with the support of an external coach, which is always a fantastic opportunity to learn something new and stay active.

For more detailed information about all of our foundation subjects, please refer to our curriculum map.

The timetable for this half term has also been updated, so please take a look at that too.

As always, our aim in Class 4 is to create a happy, nurturing and engaging environment where every child feels supported, valued and inspired to do their very best. It is a busy and exciting term ahead, and I am truly looking forward to sharing it with the children and working closely with you.

Please continue to check the class page and our school Instagram page for updates and photographs of our learning.

If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to get in touch, I am always happy to help.

Let’s make it a fantastic summer term in Class 4!

Thank you for your continued support.

Key information

  • English and Maths homework will be given on Friday.
  • Maths homework will be either on MyMaths, Google Classroom or TTRS. English homework can be found on the Google Classroom. I will let the children know where they can find their homework if ever it is different. Children can still login to Abacus and Purple Mash if they wish to access some of their learning games in addition to their set homework.
  • Homework should take no more than 15-20 minutes. If would be great if children could read at home for 10 minutes per day as as often as possible and the same with TTRS. This can be done independently.
  • Our PE days will be Tuesday and Wednesday and a full PE kit is needed for these days please.
